Removal and Installation

Removal

WARNING:
WARNING:Wait at least 15 minutes after disconnecting the battery before disconnecting the air bag control module electrical connector. For all other supplementary restraints system electrical connectors; wait two minutes. Failure to follow these procedures could increase the possibility of accidently deploying the air bag(s) and pyrotechnic pretensioners.
CAUTION:
CAUTION:The belt pretensioner components may neither be opened or repaired. Use only new parts.
CAUTION:
CAUTION:Do not treat the pretensioner with grease, cleansers or similar products. Do not subject the pretensioner to temperatures above 100°C.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  1. Remove the front seat. For additional information, refer to Section  501-10 Seating.

  1. Detach the seat harness.
    • Cut the cable tie and detach the harness from the under side of the seat assembly.

  1. Detach the pyrotechnic pretensioner harness.
    • Remove the pyrotechnic pretensioner harness from the armored casing.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The pretensioner securing bolt is retained to the tensioner by a paper washer. The bolt should always remain on the pretensioner.
    Remove the pyrotechnic pretensioner.
    • Remove the Torx retaining screw.

Installation
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Pretensioner units which have fallen to the ground or are mechanically damaged (dents, cracks etc) must not be installed.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The pretensioner unit must be installed immediately after removal from its packaging. If work is interrupted for any reason, the unit must be returned to the packaging.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the harness is routed correctly clear of moving components.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
