Removal and Installation
Removal
WARNING:Wait at least one minute after disconnecting the battery ground cable before disconnecting any supplemental restraint system electrical connector. Failure to follow this warning could cause premature deployment and may result in personal injury.
All Vehicles
Disconnect battery ground cable.
Wait one minute.
Remove the front seat (refer to procedure contained in this section).
CAUTION:Note the position and routing of the wiring harness to aid assembly. An incorrectly routed harness may lead to the wires becoming damaged on the seat mechanism.
Detach the pretensioner wiring harness from the underside of the seat.
NOTE:Certain production seat recliner handwheels were installed using a two legged star lock washer. When installing the recliner handwheel, the four legged star lock washer contained in the service kit must be used.
Remove the backrest recliner handwheel.
Remove the cap.
Remove the star lock washer.
NOTE:The front plastic clip may break during removal. Always install a new clip during installation to prevent loose trim.
Remove the inboard seat trim.
Detach the front clip.
Detach the rear locating tang.
NOTE:The front plastic clip may break during removal. Always install a new clip during installation to prevent loose trim.
Remove the outboard seat trim.
Detach the front clip.
Detach the rear locating tang.
5-door Vehicles
Remove the backrest.
Remove the Torx bolts from both sides.
3-door Vehicles
Remove the backrest.
Tip the backrest forward.
Remove the Torx bolt.
All Vehicles
Remove the inboard seat valance.
Remove the Torx bolt and striker bush (3 -door vehicle shown).
Detach the rear locating tang.
Detach the front locating tangs.
Slide the valance forward.
Remove the pyrotechnic safety belt tensioner.
Installation
All Vehicles
Install the pyrotechnic safety belt tensioner.
Install the inboard seat valance.
Install the front locating tangs.
Slide the valance rearwards.
Install the rear locating tang.
Install the Torx bolt and striker bush (3 -door vehicle shown).
3-door Vehicles
Install the backrest.
Install the Torx bolt on both sides.
5-door Vehicles
Install the backrest.
Install the Torx bolts on both sides.
All Vehicles
NOTE:The front plastic clip may break during removal. Always install a new clip during installation to prevent loose trim.
Install the outboard seat trim.
Install the rear locating tang.
Install the front clip.
NOTE:The front plastic clip may break during removal. Always install a new clip during installation to prevent loose trim.
Install the inboard seat trim.
Install the rear locating tang.
Install the front clip.
CAUTION:A new star lock washer must be used when installing the recliner handwheel.
CAUTION:The service kit contains a new star lock washer (yellow) and an installation tool. The installation tool will locate the star lock washer to the correct depth on the recliner shaft. Do not use any other tool to install the star lock washer. Failure to follow this caution could impair the operation of the recliner mechanism.
