Removal and Installation

Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) or equivalent

Removal and Installation

All vehicles
NOTE:
NOTE:: If a new PCM is being installed, connect WDS. Upload the instrument cluster configuration information using the programmable modules installation routine prior to commencing the removal of the PCM (this is carried out by WDS or equivalent during the vehicle identification process).
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).

  1. Remove the radiator grill.

  1. Detach the left-hand headlamp.

  1. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the headlamp.
Vehicles built up to 09/2003

  1. Remove the PCM retaining bolt and nuts.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Disconnect the electrical connector shown on the right-hand side of the graphic first.
    Remove the PCM.
    1. Depress the PCM electrical connector locking tangs.
    1. Rotate the levers and pull off the electrical connectors.
Vehicles built 09/2003 onwards

  1. Using a 6mm drill bit, drill into the shear bolt until the head is removed.

  1. Detach the PCM and security shield from the PCM retaining bracket.
  1. Detach the PCM from the security shield.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Disconnect the electrical connector shown on the right-hand side of the graphic first.
    Remove the PCM.
    1. Depress the PCM electrical connector locking tangs.
    1. Rotate the levers and pull off the electrical connectors.
    • Remove the security shield.
  1. Remove the remains of the shear bolt from the PCM retaining bracket using a stud remover.

Installation

Vehicles built up to 09/2003

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Connect the electrical connector shown on the right-hand side of the graphic last.
    Connect the PCM electrical connectors.

  1. Install the PCM to the PCM retaining bracket.
Vehicles built 09/2003 onwards
  1. Slide the security shield onto the wiring harness.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Connect the electrical connector shown on the right-hand side of the graphic last.
    Connect the PCM electrical connectors.
  1. Install the PCM into the security shield.
NOTE:
NOTE:To aid installation, it is necessary to manoeuvre the PCM and security shield into the headlamp aperture to allow the electrical connectors to clear the engine.

  1. Install the PCM and security shield to the PCM retaining bracket.

  1. Install a new shear bolt.
    • Tighten the bolt until the head shears off.
All vehicles

  1. Connect the electrical connector and install the headlamp.

  1. Install the left-hand headlamp.

  1. Install the radiator grill.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:If a new PCM is being installed, connect WDS. Download the instrument cluster configuration information using the programmable modules installation routine after the installation of the PCM.
    Connect the battery ground cable.
