Rear Suspension - Rear Stabilizer Bar Focus 1999 (08/1998-12/2004)
Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Remove the wheels and tires. For additional information, refer to Section  204-04 Wheels and Tires.
  1. Remove the springs.
    For additional information, refer to Spring in this section.

  1. Detach the stabilizer bar from the rear lower arm on both sides.
  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Both sides of the suspension must be set to the design height setting. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    Set the suspension to the design height setting. For additional information, refer to Section  204-00 Suspension System - General Information.

  1. Remove the stabilizer bar clamps (left-hand side shown).
    1. Remove the retaining bolts.
    1. Remove the clamp.
  1. Remove the stabilizer bar.

  1. Remove the stabilizer bar bushings.

Installation

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The stabilizer bar bushings must be located correctly on the stabilizer bar, with no lubricant.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure the bushing nipple is on the left-hand side.
    Install the bushing onto the stabilizer bar on both sides.

  1. Install the stabilizer bar clamps.
    1. Apply water to the clamps to assist installation.
    1. Press the clamp onto the bushing on both sides.

  1. Install the stabilizer bar.
  1. Lower the suspension from the design height setting.

  1. Attach the stabilizer bar to the rear lower arm on both sides.
  1. Install the springs.

  1. Install the wheels and tires. For additional information, refer to Section  204-04 Wheels and Tires.
