Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
CAUTION:
CAUTION:If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.
  1. Release the parking brake.
  1. Remove the wheels and tires.
    For additional information, refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).
Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

  1. Detach the wheel speed sensor wiring harness from the wheel knuckle and floor panel.
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    1. Detach the clips.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not remove the brake drum by means of the hub retaining nut.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not damage the wheel speed sensor wiring harness or electrical connector.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:The wheel speed sensor wiring harness is routed through the wheel knuckle.
    Remove the wheel spindle and wheel hub assembly.
Vehicles without anti-lock brakes

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not remove the brake drum by means of the hub retaining nut.
    Remove the wheel spindle and wheel hub assembly.
All vehicles

  1. Disconnect the brake shoes from the wheel cylinder.

  1. Remove the wheel cylinder.
    1. Disconnect the brake tube union.
    1. Remove the bolts.

Installation

All vehicles

  1. Install the wheel cylinder.
    1. Install the bolts.
    1. Connect the brake tube union.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not damage the wheel cylinder boots.
    Connect the brake shoes to the wheel cylinder.
Vehicles without anti-lock brakes

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free from rust and foreign material.
    Install the wheel spindle and wheel hub assembly.
Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free from rust and foreign material.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not damage the wheel speed sensor wiring harness or electrical connector.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:The wheel speed sensor wiring harness is routed through the wheel knuckle.
    Install the wheel spindle and wheel hub assembly.

  1. Attach the wheel speed sensor wiring harness to the wheel knuckle and floor panel.
    1. Connect the electrical connection.
    1. Attach the clips.
All vehicles
  1. Install the wheels and tires.

  1. Bleed the brake system.

  1. Operate the brake pedal to achieve automatic adjustment.
