Removal and Installation

Removal

All Vehicles
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.
    Disconnect the battery ground cable.

  1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the filler cap.
    1. Pull back the tab.
    1. Depress the clips.
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the filler cap does not become contaminated.
    Remove the brake fluid reservoir filler cap.
  1. Loosen the wheel nuts.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.
  1. Remove the front road wheels.

  1. Loosen the bleed nipple.
    1. Remove the dust cap.
    1. Loosen the bleed nipple.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Carry out this process on both the front brake lines.
    Drain the brake fluid reservoir.
    1. Connect a bleed tube to the bleed nipple and into a suitable container.
    1. Pump the brake pedal until no more fluid is expelled.
    1. Tighten the bleed nipple.
  1. Lower the vehicle.
All except diesel engine
  1. Remove the evaporative emission canister purge valve (EVAP). For additional information, refer to Section  303-13 Evaporative Emissions.
Vehicles with diesel engine
  1. Remove the fuel filter. For additional information, refer to Section  303-13 Evaporative Emissions.
All Vehicles

  1. Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector.

  1. Disconnect the wiring harness bracket.

  1. Detach the fuel vapor lines from the bulkhead.

  1. Detach the fuel line from the bulkhead below the brake booster.

  1. Disconnect the brake fluid feed tube.

  1. Detach the brake fluid feed tube from the bulkhead.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the brake tube connections to prevent fluid loss or dirt contamination.
    Disconnect the brake tubes.
Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the brake tube connections to prevent fluid loss or dirt contamination.
    Disconnect the brake tubes.
Vehicles with Stability Assist

  1. Disconnect the pressure sensors electrical connector.
All Vehicles

  1. Detach the wiring harness bracket nut.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Before removing the master cylinder make sure that the brake booster vacuum is exhausted. This may be done by removing the vacuum pipe from the brake booster.
    Remove the master cylinder.

Installation

All Vehicles

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Before installing the master cylinder make sure that the vacuum seal is in place and that the mating faces are clean.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:After installation, bleed the brake system. For additional information, refer to Section  206-00 Brake System - General Information.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
