Hand Pressure Pump with adapter kit

1. 

   WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
   

   CAUTION:Diesel fuel injection equipment is manufactured to very precise tolerances and fine clearances. It is therefore essential that absolute cleanliness is observed when working with these components. Always fit blanking plugs to any open orifices or lines.
   Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

2. Clean the area around the fuel filter connections and fuel lines. For additional information, refer to Section  303-04A Fuel Charging and Controls / 303-04B Fuel Charging and Controls / 303-04C Fuel Charging and Controls / 303-04D Fuel Charging and Controls - Turbocharger / 303-04E Fuel Charging and Controls / 303-04F Fuel Charging and Controls / 303-04K Fuel Charging and Controls / 303-04M Fuel Charging and Controls.

3. Disconnect the fuel pump to fuel filter fuel return line from the fuel filter. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00A Fuel System - General Information / 310-00B Fuel System - General Information / 310-00C Fuel System - General Information.

4. Disconnect the fuel tank to fuel filter fuel supply line from the fuel filter. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00A Fuel System - General Information / 310-00B Fuel System - General Information / 310-00C Fuel System - General Information.

5. Disconnect the fuel filter to fuel pump fuel supply line from the fuel filter. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00A Fuel System - General Information / 310-00B Fuel System - General Information / 310-00C Fuel System - General Information.
   • Install a blanking plug to the fuel pump fuel supply line.

6. Remove the fuel filter and fuel filter retaining bracket.
   • Press the fuel filter retaining bracket clip.

7. 

   NOTE:Discard the fuel filter.
   Remove the fuel filter from the fuel filter retaining bracket.
   • Loosen the screw.

   NOTE:Install a new fuel filter.
   

   NOTE:Make sure that the fuel filter is fully installed into the fuel filter retaining bracket.
   Install the fuel filter to the fuel filter retaining bracket.
   1. Align the fuel filter with the mark on the fuel filter retaining bracket.
   2. Tighten the screw.

2. Install the fuel filter and fuel filter retaining bracket until an audible click is heard.

3. Clean the area around the fuel filter connections and fuel lines. 4. Remove the blanking plug from the fuel filter to fuel pump fuel supply line and connect the fuel filter to fuel pump fuel supply line to the fuel filter.    • Discard the blanking plug.

5. Remove the blanking plug from the fuel pump to fuel filter fuel return line and connect the fuel pump to fuel filter fuel return line to the fuel filter. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00A Fuel System - General Information / 310-00B Fuel System - General Information / 310-00C Fuel System - General Information.
   • Discard the blanking plug.

   CAUTION:Make sure that the fuel filter connection is not damaged with the installation of the special tool, as this may cause air ingress to fuel lines.
   Remove the blanking plug from the fuel tank to fuel filter fuel supply line and install the hand pressure pump special tool adapter to the fuel filter.
   • Discard the blanking plug.

7. 

   NOTE:Make sure that the hand primer arrow indicating the direction of fuel flow is pointing towards the fuel filter.
   Install the hand pressure pump special tool to the hand pressure pump special tool adapter on the fuel filter.

8. Install the hand pressure pump special tool adapter to the fuel tank to fuel filter fuel supply line.

9. 

   NOTE:Make sure that the hand primer arrow indicating the direction of fuel flow is pointing towards the fuel filter.
   Install the hand pressure pump special tool to the hand pressure pump special tool adapter on the fuel tank to fuel filter fuel supply line.

10. Operate the fuel hand pressure pump special until fuel starts to flow through the fuel filter and fuel pump and the hand pressure pump special becomes firm.

11. 

    CAUTION:Do not operate the starter motor for longer than 10 seconds at a time. After 10 seconds, turn the ignition to position 0 and allow the starter motor to cool for 30 seconds before attempting to start the engine again.
    Start the engine and allow to idle until it reaches normal operating temperature.

12. Switch the engine off.

13. Remove the hand pressure pump special tool from the hand pressure pump special tool adapter on the fuel tank to fuel filter fuel supply line.

14. Remove the hand pressure pump special tool adapter from the fuel tank to fuel filter fuel supply line.

15. Remove the hand pressure pump special tool from the hand pressure pump special tool adapter on the fuel filter.

16. Remove the hand pressure pump special tool adapter from fuel filter fuel.

17. Connect the fuel tank to fuel filter fuel supply line to the fuel filter. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00A Fuel System - General Information / 310-00B Fuel System - General Information / 310-00C Fuel System - General Information.

18. Initialize the door window motors. For additional information, refer to Section  501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms.
