A1: CHECK THE LOW BEAM

Ignition switch in position II.

SWITCH ON the low beam.

Check the low beams.

Do the low beams illuminate?
Yes

A2: DETERMINE THE VEHICLE EQUIPMENT

Determine the vehicle equipment.

Does the vehicle have conventional headlamps?
Yes
No
High intensity discharge headlamps: GO to A10.
A3: CHECK THE FUSE F25 (BJB)

Ignition switch in position 0.
2
CHECK Fuse F25 (BJB) (15 A).

Is the fuse OK?
Yes
No
INSTALL a new fuse F25 (15 A) and TEST the system. If the fuse blows again, LOCATE and REPAIR the short to ground by using the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.
A4: CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY OF FUSE F25 (BJB)

Connect Fuse F25 (BJB).

Ignition switch in position II.

Measure the voltage between fuse F25 (BJB) and ground.

Is battery voltage indicated?
Yes
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the open in circuit 30-DC25 (RD), between splice S102 and fuse F25 (BJB), by using the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.
A5: CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY OF DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS (DRL) RELAY

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect Daytime running lamps (DRL) relay from socket C1012.

Measure the voltage between daytime running lamps (DRL) relay, socket C1012, pin 3, circuit 30-LE8 (RD), BJB-side and ground.

Is battery voltage indicated?
Yes
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the open in circuit 30-LE8 (RD) (DRL resistor wire), between fuse F25 (BJB) and daytime running lamps (DRL) relay, by using the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.
A6: CHECK THE LOAD CIRCUIT OF THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS (DRL) RELAY FOR OPEN

Disconnect Fuse F16 (BJB).

Measure the resistance between daytime running lamps (DRL) relay, socket C1012, pin 5, circuit 15S-LE7 (GN/BU) and fuse F17, BJB-side.

Is the resistance less than 2 ohms?
Yes
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the open in circuit between daytime running lamps (DRL) relay and splice S120 by using the wiring diagrams, if necessary INSTALL a new BJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
A7: CHECK THE CONTROL CIRCUIT OF THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS (DRL) RELAY

Ignition switch in position II.

Measure the voltage between daytime running lamps (DRL) relay, socket C1012, pin 1, circuit 15S-LE6 (GN/YE), BJB-side and ground.

Is battery voltage indicated?
Yes
No
A8: CHECK GROUND CONNECTION OF DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS (DRL) RELAY

Ignition switch in position 0.

Measure the resistance between daytime running lamps (DRL) relay, socket C1012, pin 2, circuit 91-LE6 (BK/YE), BJB-side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 2 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new daytime running lamps (DRL) relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the open in circuit(s) between daytime running lamps (DRL) relay and splice S118 by using the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.
A9: CHECK THE LIGHT SWITCH

Ignition switch in position 0.
2
Connect Fuse F16 (BJB).
3
Connect Daytime running lamps (DRL) relay with socket C1012.

Disconnect Light switch from connector C320.

Connect a fused jumper wire (10 A) at the light switch, connector C320, between pin 8, circuit 15-LE29 (GN/BK), harness side and pin 4, circuit 15S-LE6 (GN/YE)/15S-LE29A (GN/BK), harness side.

Ignition switch in position II.

Check the low beams.

Do the low beams (DRL) illuminate?
Yes
INSTALL a new light switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the open in circuit 15S-LE6 (GN/YE), between light switch and daytime running lamps (DRL) relay, by using the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.
A10: CHECK THE FUSE F22 (BJB)

Ignition switch in position 0.
2
CHECK Fuse F22 (BJB) (20 A).

Is the fuse OK?
Yes
No
INSTALL a new fuse F22 (20 A) and TEST the system. If the fuse blows again, LOCATE and REPAIR the short to ground by using the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.
A11: CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY OF FUSE F22 (BJB)

Connect Fuse F22 (BJB).

Ignition switch in position II.

Measure the voltage between fuse F22 (BJB) and ground.

Is battery voltage indicated?
Yes
No
CHECK the BJB, if necessary INSTALL a new one. TEST the system for normal operation.
A12: CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY OF DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS (DRL) RELAY

Measure the voltage between daytime running lamps (DRL) relay, socket C1012, pin 3, circuit 30-LE7 (RD), BJB-side and ground.

LOCATE and REPAIR the open in circuit between fuse F22 (BJB) and daytime running lamps (DRL) relay by using the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.
A13: CHECK THE CIRCUIT 15S-LE7 (GN/BU) OF THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS (DRL) RELAY

Disconnect Fuse F16 (BJB).

Measure the resistance between daytime running lamps (DRL) relay, socket C1012, pin 5, circuit 15S-LE7 (GN/BU) and fuse F17, BJB-side.

Is the resistance less than 2 ohms?
Yes
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the open in circuit between daytime running lamps (DRL) relay and splice S120 by using the wiring diagrams, if necessary INSTALL a new BJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
A14: CHECK THE CONTROL CIRCUIT OF THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS (DRL) RELAY

INSTALL a new daytime running lamps (DRL) relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the open in circuit between daytime running lamps (DRL) relay and splice S118 by using the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.
A16: CHECK THE LIGHT SWITCH

Ignition switch in position 0.

Connect Fuse F16 (BJB).
3
Disconnect Light switch from connector C320.
4
Connect Daytime running lamps (DRL) relay with socket C1012.

Connect a fused jumper wire (10 A) to the light switch, connector C320, between pin 8, circuit 15-LE29 (GN/BK), harness side and pin 4, circuit 15S-LE6 (GN/YE)/15S-LE29A (GN/BK), harness side.

Ignition switch in position II.

Check the low beams.

Do the low beams (DRL) illuminate?
Yes
INSTALL a new light switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the open in circuit 15S-LE6 (GN/YE), between light switch and daytime running lamps (DRL) relay, by using the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST B : THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS ARE ON WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF

Yes
The headlamps are illuminated:

No
- The parking lamps or the license lamps are illuminated:
REFER to: Parking, Rear and License Lamps - Vehicles Built From: 08/2001 (417-01 Exterior Lighting, Diagnosis and Testing).
- No lamps are illuminated: GO to B2.
B2: CHECK THE CONTROL CIRCUIT OF THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS (DRL) RELAY FOR SHORT TO POWER

Measure the voltage to the daytime running lamps (DRL) relay, socket C1012, between pin 1, circuit 15S-LE6 (GN/YE) and pin 2, circuit 91-LE6 (BK/YE), BJB-side.

Is battery voltage indicated?
Yes
No
INSTALL a new daytime running lamps (DRL) relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
B3: ISOLATE THE SHORT TO POWER CIRCUIT
1
Connect Daytime running lamps (DRL) relay with socket C1012.
2
Disconnect Light switch from connector C320.
3
Check the low beams.

Do the low beams (DRL) illuminate continuously?
Yes
LOCATE and REPAIR the short to power in circuits connected with light switch, connector C320, pin 4, by using the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
B4: CHECK THE CIRCUIT AT THE LIGHT SWITCH FOR SHORT TO POWER

Measure the voltage between light switch, connector C320, pin 8, circuit 15-LE29 (GN/BK), harness side and ground.

Is battery voltage indicated?
Yes
LOCATE and REPAIR the short to power in circuits connected with fuse F59 (CJB) by using the wiring diagrams. If necessary INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new light switch. TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST C : THE PARKING LAMPS OR LICENSE LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE WITH THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS ON

C2: CHECK THE CIRCUIT 15S-LE29 (GN/BK) AT THE LIGHT SWITCH FOR OPEN

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect Light switch from connector C320.

Ignition switch in position II.

Measure the resistance at the light switch, connector C320, between pin 15, circuit 15S-LE29 (GN/BK) and pin 4, circuit 15S-LE29A (GN/BK)/15S-LE6 (GN/YE), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 2 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new light switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the open in circuit 15S-LE29(A) (GN/BK), between pin 4 and pin 15, light switch, connector C320, by using the wiring diagrams. TEST the system for normal operation.
