Features of telematics

The telematics system allows the user to select the following functions:

  • Emergency calls
  • Road side assistance service
  • Location of the vehicle through the GPS system
  • Voice communications
  • Route finder information
  • Traffic information
  • Ordering services (hotel reservations, theatre tickets, repair shops, car rental, car parking, airlines tickets, restaurant reservations, test drive new Ford models, florists and railway tickets).

The telematics compatible audio unit is available in two variants:

  • 5000 radio/cassette with radio data system (RDS)
  • 6000 radio/compact disc (CD) player with RDS

Microphone

The microphone is located on the driver side A - pillar trim panel. The microphone is retained to the trim panel by a clip which must be installed in the correct position.

Antenna

The antenna also consists of the AM/FM, GPS and global system for mobile communications (GSM) antennas. The GPS and GSM antennas connect to the telematics control module using fly leads which can be replaced independently.

Telematics control module

The telematics control module is located behind the glove compartment and is retained by two screws which also support the glove compartment striker plate.

The telematics control module consists of the following:

  • Subscriber identification module (SIM) card
  • GSM module
  • GPS receiver
  • Telematics processor
