Installation

Special Tool(s)

Hydraulic jib crane

  1. Install the Special Tool(s): 303-122
    General Equipment: Hydraulic jib crane

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The torque converter hub must engage fully with the oil pump drive gear.
    1. Position the steel straightedge on the transmission flange.
    1. Measure the correct installation depth between the automatic transmission flange and the torque converter guide collar.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Ensure that the two guide sleeves are installed.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The torque converter must remain at the correct installation depth throughout the entire installation procedure.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Before installing the bolts in the transmission, the torque converter studs must be aligned with the holes in the drive plate.
    Torque: 48 Nm

  1. Torque: 48 Nm

  1. Torque: 48 Nm

  1. Torque: 37 Nm
  1. Refer to: Starter Motor - 1.4L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.6L Duratec-16V (Sigma) (303-06A Starting System, Removal and Installation).

  1. Torque: 10 Nm

  1. Secure the engine and transmission to the assembly table using suitable tensioning straps and wooden blocks.
    General Equipment: Mounting table set

    General Equipment: Securing Strap

  1. Remove the Special Tool(s): 303-122

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that no components catch.
    Lower the vehicle to take the load off the engine mountings.
    Refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

    1. Torque: 148 Nm
    1. NOTE:
      NOTE:Only tighten the nuts finger tight at this stage.

    1. NOTE:
      NOTE:Only tighten the bolts finger tight at this stage.
    1. Torque: 80 Nm
  1. Remove the assembly stand.

  1. Torque: 48 Nm

  1. Torque: 90 Nm

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that these components are installed to the noted removal position.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Gearshift cables must not be kinked or bent.

  1. Torque: 80 Nm

  1. Torque: 23 Nm

  1. General Equipment: Hose clamp remover/installer

  1. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling (310-00 Fuel System - General Information, General Procedures).

  1. General Equipment: Hose clamp remover/installer
  1. Refer to: Battery Tray - 1.4L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.6L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.8L Duratec-HE (MI4)/2.0L Duratec-HE (MI4) (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).

  1. Torque: 25 Nm
  1. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt - 1.4L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.6L Duratec-16V (Sigma) (303-05A Accessory Drive, Removal and Installation).
  1. Refer to: Front Halfshaft LH (205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation).
    Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH (205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation).

  1. Torque: 55 Nm

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the exhaust flexible pipe is not forcibly bent.
    General Equipment: Tire lever
    Torque: 48 Nm

  1. Torque: 12 Nm

  1. Torque: 10 Nm
  1. Refer to: Radiator (303-03A Engine Cooling - 1.4L Duratec-16V (Sigma)/1.6L Duratec-16V (Sigma), Removal and Installation).
  1. Connect the battery.
    Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
