Diagnosis and Testing This test verifies that the shift control system is operating correctly. - Bring the engine and transaxle up to normal operating temperature.
- Operate the vehicle with the selector lever in the "D" (DRIVE) position.
- Apply minimum throttle and observe the speeds at which upshift occurs.
- Press the accelerator pedal rapidly to the floor (kickdown). The transaxle should shift from:
- 4th to 3rd, or 4th to 2nd, dependent on vehicle speed
- 3rd to 2nd, or 3rd to 1st, dependent on vehicle speed
- Select manual shift mode and make sure that the transmission will manually upshift each gear to 4th gear and downshift each gear to 1st gear dependent on vehicle speed.
- Manually select 3rd gear at approximately 90 km/h (56 mph). Gently accelerate to 110 km/h (68 mph) and hold that speed. A slight drop in engine speed should be observed.
- If the transaxle fails to upshift or downshift, or the torque converter clutch does not apply or release,
