Windshield wiper arm position

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Make sure that the wiper motor is in the park position.
NOTE:
NOTE:The steps 1 to 3 are only necessary if the windshield wiper blades touch the A-pillars when the windshield wipers are switched on.

  1. Remove the windshield wiper arms.
    1. Detach the windshield wiper arm caps.
    1. Loosen the windshield wiper arm retaining nuts by about two turns.
    1. Release the windshield wiper arms from the tapers and remove the retaining nuts.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Use a suitable cleaning agent, thoroughly clean the splines of the windshield wiper arms and tapers before installation to avoid an incorrect adjustment.
    Position the windshield wiper arms as shown in the graphic.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Hold the windshield wiper arms to stop them from turning while tighten the windshield wiper arm retaining nuts.
    Tighten the windshield wiper arm retaining nuts.
    • Install the windshield wiper arm caps.

Vehicles without beam blade wipers

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the wiper motor is in the park position.
    Remove the wiper blade.
  1. Insert the wiper arm in the special tool and place the special tool on the windshield.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:All three support points of the special tool must be in contact with the glass.
    Using the special tool, read off the angle between the wiper arm and the windshield.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Lift the special tool away from the glass when correcting the angle, in order to prevent damage.
    Using an open-ended wrench on the special tool, adjust the wiper arm.

  1. Remove the special tool.
  1. Install the wiper blade.

Vehicles with beam blade wipers

  1. Remove the wiper blade.

  1. Connect the adapter "B" with the angle measuring instrument.
    • Tighten the knurled screw finger tight.
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the wiper motor is in the park position.
    Remove the wiper blade.

  1. Insert the wiper arm in the angle measuring instrument and place the angle measuring instrument on the windshield.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:All three support points of the angle measuring instrument must be in contact with the glass.
    Using the angle measuring instrument, read off the angle between the wiper arm and the windshield.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that no mechanical force is applied to the wiper blade holder while adjusting the angle.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The wiper arm must not be adjusted by more than three degrees. If a bigger adjustment is necessary, check the wiper arm for damage, replace if necessary.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Lift the angle measuring instrument away from the glass when correcting the angle, in order to prevent damage.
    Using the adjusting tool and the counter holder, adjust the wiper arm.

  1. Remove the angle measuring instrument.
  1. Install the wiper blade.
