In-vehicle Repair

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Remove the timing belt.
    For additional information, refer to Timing belt in this section.

  1. Detach the coolant pipe.
  1. Remove the catalytic converter.
    For additional information, refer to Catalytic converter in this section.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:FRONT mark and installation position of timing pulley thrust washer.
    Remove the crankshaft timing pulley.
    1. Pull off the crankshaft timing pulley.
    1. Remove the key and timing pulley thrust washer.
Vehicles with air conditioning
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The refrigerant circuit remains closed.
    Detach the A/C compressor and tie it up to the front.

  1. Detach the A/C compressor bracket from the engine.
All vehicles
  1. Remove the oil pan.
    For additional information, refer to Oil pan in this section.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Any spacer shims present between the transmission and the lower crankcase should be refitted in the same location on installation.
    Remove the oil intake pipe and the lower crankcase (shown on an engine removed from the vehicle).
    1. Oil intake pipe bolts.
    1. Lower crankcase bolts

  1. Remove the drivebelt tensioner.

  1. Remove the oil pump (shown on an engine removed from the vehicle).

Installation

All vehicles
  1. Align the oil pump.
    • Position the oil pump with a new gasket and tighten the bolts finger tight.
    • Align the oil pump on both sides so that the mating face is 0,3 to 0,8 mm above the lower edge of the cylinder block.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Coat the crankshaft oil seal with engine oil.
    Attach the oil pump with a new crankshaft front oil seal (shown on an engine removed from the vehicle).
    • Tighten the bolts and check the alignment according to the previous step - correct as necessary.

  1. Install the drive belt tensioner.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:During installation, make sure that the spacer shims between the transmission and the lower crankcase are put back in the same positions as they were before.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:First tighten the bolts on the transmission.
    Install the lower crankcase with a new gasket (shown on an engine removed from the vehicle).
    1. Tighten the bolts.
    1. Install the oil intake pipe.
  1. Install the oil pan.
    For additional information, refer to Oil pan in this section.
Vehicles with air conditioning
  1. Install the air-conditioning compressor bracket.

  1. Install the air conditioning compressor.
All vehicles
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:FRONT mark and installation position of timing pulley thrust washer.
    Install the crankshaft timing pulley.
    1. Slide on the timing pulley thrust washer and key.
    1. Install the crankshaft timing pulley.
  1. Install the catalytic converter.
    For additional information, refer to Catalytic converter in this section.

  1. Attach the coolant pipe.
  1. Install the timing belt.
    For additional information, refer to Timing belt in this section.
