Removal and Installation

Removal

WARNING:
WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can ignite. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
  1. Depressurize the fuel system. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00A Fuel System - General Information / 310-00B Fuel System - General Information.
  1. Remove the upper intake manifold. For additional information, refer to Section  303-01A Engine / 303-01B Engine / 303-01C Engine / 303-01D Engine.

  1. Disconnect the wiring harness from the injectors.

  1. Disconnect the vacuum pipe from the fuel pressure regulator.

  1. Disconnect the intake manifold runner control (IMRC) actuator rod.
    1. Disconnect the IMRC cable from the retainer.
    1. Disconnect the IMRC cable end.
  1. Disconnect the fuel supply and return hoses from the fuel rail. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00A Fuel System - General Information / 310-00B Fuel System - General Information.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The fuel rail and fuel injectors are removed as an assembly.
    Remove the fuel rail and injectors.
    • Discard the seals.

  1. Remove the fuel injectors from the fuel rail.

Installation

WARNING:
WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can ignite. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Never use silicone grease. It will clog the injectors.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Install new O-ring seals.
