NOTE:The shift mechanism must not be dismantled. Install a new shift mechanism. | Vehicles built up to 10.1999 inclusive | | -
Remove the reversing lamp switch. | | | -
Remove the reversing lamp actuating pin. | | | -
Detach the internal gearshift mechanism cover. | | | -
NOTE:Bolt is fitted with thread-locking compound. Unscrew the bolt and remove the ball joint and the selector lever shaft. - Heat the bolt with a hot air blower to approx. ca. 60 - 80°C and unscrew it.

Take off the selector block and the spring, detach the shift lever. - Knock off the shift lever together with the nut.

Detach the selector gate and selector shaft from the gearshift mechanism housing. - Remove the bolts.
- Detach the selector gate and selector shaft.

Remove the selector shaft. - Pull off the selector gate from the selector shaft.
- Take off the selector finger with bracket.

Remove the snap-ring and washer from the selector shaft. | | | -
Remove the gearshift lever shaft. | | | -
Remove and discard the oil seals. | | | -
Drive out both needle roller bearings of the gearshift lever shaft inwards using a suitable socket insert. | Assembly | | -
Drive in the upper needle roller bearing of the gearshift lever shaft using a suitable socket insert. | | | -
NOTE:Oil seal installation depth. NOTE:Coat the oil seal with sealer. Use a suitable socket to drive the new oil seals home. | | | -
Install the lower needle roller bearing of the gearshift lever shaft with the gearshift lever shaft. | | | -
Set the axial clearance of the gearshift lever shaft to 0,3 ± 0,1 mm by tapping it lightly. | | | -
Slide the snap-ring and washer onto the selector shaft. | | | -
Assemble the selector finger and bracket and insert them into the selector gate. - Selector finger

NOTE:Use a new bolt and only Install it loosely. Install the selector shaft and screw in the bolt. - Slide the selector gate onto the selector shaft.
- Install the bolt loosely.

Attach the selector gate with selector shaft to the gearshift mechanism housing and tighten the bolt. - Check that the selector shaft moves freely.

NOTE:Use a new reversing lamp actuating pin. Install the selector block. - Slide the spring onto the selector shaft.
- Slide the selector block onto the selector shaft.
- Screw in and tighten the reversing lamp operating pin.

Install the selector lever shaft and the ball joint. - Check that the gearshift mechanism moves freely.

Install the cover of the inner gearshift mechanism using sealer . | | | -
Install the reversing lamp switch. | |
