Barrel, luggage compartment lock
The front and rear doors are of a conventional lock to striker plate design with the strikers located on the body pillars.
The hood and tailgate/luggage compartment strikers are a fixed part of the panel assembly and not serviced separately. These locate into locks positioned in the closing or landing panels.
The wagon variant differs to this in that the lock assembly is fixed into the tailgate. This is to enable connection with the barrel which is located on the tailgate and not on the tail lamp panel.
The hood, fuel filler flap and tailgate/luggage compartment lid can all be opened by cable from inside the vehicle. In addition, an auxiliary cable release for the fuel filler flap operates from inside the luggage compartment.
The door lock mechanisms are operated by a conventional actuating rod and cable system connected to the inner and outer lock handles.
These are supplemented by electronic locking motors fixed directly to the door lock assembly, operated via sensors at the key barrels.
The front door outer handle is removed from the inside of the door panel and is directly connected to the lock assembly by a plastic connecting panel. In most cases it is easier to perform service tasks if these units are first removed from the doors as an assembly.
