Parking Brake and Actuation - Parking Brake Cable Mondeo 2001 (10/2000-02/2007)
Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Release the parking brake lever.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to: (100-02 Jacking and Lifting)

    Lifting (Description and Operation).
Vehicles with 1.8L or 2.0L engine

  1. Detach the catalytic converter from the front muffler pipe.
    • Discard the gasket and nuts.
Vehicles with 2.5L engine

  1. Detach the catalytic converter from the front muffler pipe.
    • Discard the gasket and nuts.
Vehicles with 3.0L engine

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Over bending of the exhaust flexible pipe may cause damage resulting in failure.
    Support the exhaust flexible pipes with support wraps or suitable splints.

  1. Detach the exhaust flexible pipes from the front muffler pipes (left-hand shown).
    • Discard the gaskets and nuts.
Vehicles with diesel engine

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Over bending of the exhaust flexible pipe may cause damage resulting in failure.
    Support the exhaust flexible pipe with a support wrap or suitable splint.

  1. Detach the exhaust flexible pipe from the front muffler pipe.
    • Discard the sealing ring and nuts.
All vehicles

  1. Detach the front and rear muffler assembly from the front exhaust hanger insulator.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Support the front and rear muffler assembly with a suitable axle stand.
    Detach the front and rear muffler assembly from the intermediate exhaust hanger insulator.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The 2.5L and 3.0L exhaust systems have two rear mufflers.
    Remove the front and rear muffler assembly(ies).
    • Detach the muffler(s) from the rear exhaust hanger insulator(s).

  1. Remove the exhaust heat shield.

  1. Detach the tie bar bracket cover.

  1. Detach the parking brake cable from the brake caliper lever (left-hand shown).
    1. Push the caliper lever.
    1. Detach the parking brake lever.

  1. Detach the parking brake cable from the brake caliper (left-hand shown).
    1. Depress the locking tangs.
    1. Detach the cable from the brake caliper.

  1. Detach the parking brake cables from the parking brake equalizer (manually adjusted parking brake shown).

  1. Detach the parking brake cable from the floor panel on both sides.
    1. Depress the locking tangs.
    1. Detach the cable from the floor panel.

  1. Remove the parking brake cable (left-hand shown).

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:From 08/2002 only the manually adjusted parking brake components will be available.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Coat the front muffler pipe studs with grease.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Coat the front catalytic converter studs with grease.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new exhaust flexible pipe to front muffler sealing ring and nuts.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new exhaust flexible pipe to front muffler gasket and nuts.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new catalytic converter to front muffler gasket and nuts.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:On a vehicle equipped with a self-adjusting parking brake control, the parking brake control must be removed and a new manually adjusted parking brake control installed.
    Install a new parking brake control (if necessary).

  1. Adjust the parking brake cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Parking Brake Cable Adjustment (206-05 Parking Brake and Actuation, General Procedures).
