Removal

All vehicles

  1. Detach the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose and the vacuum hose from the engine cover.

  1. Remove the engine cover.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).

  1. Remove the air cleaner housing.
    1. Detach the clamp from the air cleaner intake hose.
    1. Detach the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose from the air cleaner housing.

  1. Remove the oil level indicator and oil level indicator tube upper retaining bolt.
Vehicles with manual transaxle

  1. Loosen the transaxle upper retaining bolts approximately 10 mm.
Vehicles with automatic transaxle

  1. Loosen the transaxle upper retaining bolts approximately 10 mm.
All vehicles

  1. Remove the oil level indicator tube lower retaining bolt.

  1. Remove the right-hand front fender splash shield.

  1. Remove the engine support insulator.

  1. Loosen the engine rear mount bracket retaining bolts.
  1. Drain the engine.
    • Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Inspect the oil pan drain plug seal for damage. Install a new drain plug and seal if required.
    Install the drain plug.
Vehicles with manual transaxle

  1. Loosen the transaxle right-hand retaining bolts approximately 10 mm.
Vehicles with automatic transaxle
  1. Remove the starter motor.

  1. Remove the rubber cover and the four torque converter to flexplate retaining nuts.
    • Rotate the torque converter to gain access to remaining nuts.
    • Discard the nuts.

  1. Loosen the transaxle right-hand retaining bolts approximately 10 mm.
All vehicles

  1. Loosen the transaxle left-hand retaining bolts approximately 10 mm.

  1. Remove the engine front cover lower retaining bolts.

  1. Remove the transaxle lower retaining bolts.
  1. Slide back the transaxle approximately 8 mm.

  1. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts.

  1. Using the special tool, remove the oil pan.

Installation

All vehicles
  1. Clean the mating faces of the cylinder block, the oil pan and the engine front cover with cleaner.

  1. Apply a 3 mm bead of sealant to the oil pan.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install the oil pan within 10 minutes of applying the silicone sealant and tighten the retaining bolts within a further 5 minutes.
    Apply a 3 mm bead of sealant to the oil pan.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not tighten the oil pan retaining bolts at this stage.
    Install the oil pan.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not tighten the transaxle lower retaining bolts at this stage.
    Install the transaxle lower retaining bolts.

  1. Install the engine front cover lower retaining bolts.

  1. Tighten the oil pan retaining bolts in the sequence shown.

  1. Tighten the transaxle lower retaining bolts.

  1. Tighten the engine rear mount bracket retaining bolts.

  1. Install the engine support insulator.

  1. Install the right-hand front fender splash shield.

  1. Install the oil level indicator tube lower retaining bolt.

  1. Tighten the transaxle left-hand retaining bolts.
Vehicles with automatic transaxle

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new torque converter to flexplate retaining nuts.
    Install the torque converter to flexplate retaining nuts (four nuts).
    • Install the rubber cover.
  1. Install the starter motor.

  1. Tighten the transaxle right-hand retaining bolts.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Tighten the transaxle upper retaining bolts.
Vehicles with manual transaxle

  1. Tighten the transaxle right-hand retaining bolts.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Tighten the transaxle upper retaining bolts.
All vehicles

  1. Install the oil level indicator and oil level indicator tube upper retaining bolt.

  1. Install the air cleaner housing.
    1. Attach the positive PCV hose to the air cleaner housing.
    1. Attach the air cleaner to engine intake hose clamp.
  1. Connect the battery ground cable.

  1. Install the engine cover.

  1. Attach the PCV hose and the vacuum hose to the engine cover.
  1. Fill the engine with engine oil.

  1. Initialize the door window motors.
    For additional information, refer to: Door Window Motor Initialization (501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms, General Procedures).
