In-vehicle Repair

Special Tool(s)

Alignment Gauge, TR Sensor

307-351 (17-090)

Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
    • Remove the battery.

  1. Remove the battery tray.
    • Remove the clips.

  1. Disconnect the solenoid body electrical connector.

  1. Remove the transmission range (TR) sensor.
    1. Disconnect the TR sensor electrical connector.
    1. Remove the bolts.

  1. Remove the wiring harness retaining clip.

  1. Disconnect the selector lever cable and bracket.
    1. Remove the bracket retaining bolts.
    1. Detach the selector lever cable from the bracket.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Prevent the fluid pipe from turning, use an open-end wrench, do not remove it from the transaxle housing.
    Disconnect the transaxle cooler inlet pipe.
    • Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Remove the bolts in the sequence shown.
    Remove the main control valve cover.
    • Disconnect the main control valve cover vent tube.

  1. Remove the fluid pan cover gasket.

  1. Remove the main control valve body retaining bolts.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not allow loose manual valve to become damaged.
    Disconnect the manual valve link from the manual control valve when removing the main control valve body from the case.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not pull solenoid body electrical connector wires.
    Remove the solenoid body electrical connector.
    • Depress the retaining tabs and push the connector through the transaxle case.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the manual valve control lever does not fall out.
    Remove the manual valve control body.

Installation

  1. Install the manual valve control body.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Inspect the solenoid valve body harness connector O-ring seal and install a new as necessary, before installing solenoid valve body harness connector in transaxle case.
    Push the solenoid valve body harness connector into the transaxle case.

  1. Connect the manual valve link to the manual control valve.

  1. Position the main control valve body and install the retaining bolts in the sequence shown.

  1. Install the manual control lever.
    1. Align the manual control lever.
    1. Tighten the retaining bolt.

  1. Position the fluid pan cover gasket on the transaxle case.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.
    Install the main control valve cover.
    • Connect the fluid pan cover vent tube.

  1. Connect the transaxle cooler inlet line.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not fully tighten the TR sensor bolts at this stage.
    Install the TR sensor.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure the manual control lever is in the "N" (NEUTRAL) position for TR sensor adjustment.
    Rotate the manual valve detent lever assembly to the "N" (NEUTRAL) position.
    1. Low 1 position.
    1. Low 2 position.
    1. "D" (DRIVE) position.
    1. "N" (NEUTRAL) position.
    1. "R" (REVERSE) position.
    1. "P" (PARK) position.

  1. Using the special tool, align the TR sensor.
    1. Install the special tool and align the TR sensor with the slots.
    1. Tighten the retaining bolts and remove the special tool.

  1. Connect the selector lever cable to the control lever.
    1. Attach the selector lever cable.
    1. Install the retaining bolts.

  1. Install the wiring harness retaining clip.

  1. Connect the TR sensor electrical connector.

  1. Connect the solenoid body electrical connector.

  1. Install the battery tray.
    • Install the clips.
  1. Connect the battery ground cable.

  1. Check the transmission fluid level.

  1. Initialize the door window motors.
    For additional information, refer to: Door Window Motor Initialization (501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms, General Procedures).
