Remove the engine upper cover. - Pull out the oil dipstick.

Detach the suspension strut covers on both sides. | | -
Undo the suspension strut top nut on both sides by four turns each. | | -
Pull out the plug of the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. | | -
Remove the air intake cleaner. - Detach the intake air pipe from the front fender.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose from the intake air cleaner.

Remove the vacuum regulator solenoid valve. - Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Detach the vacuum hoses.
- Remove the retaining bolts.

Detach the coolant pipe from the transaxle. | | -
Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector. | | -
CAUTION:Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees. CAUTION:Do not damage the halfshaft oil seal. NOTE:Plug the transaxle to prevent oil loss and dirt ingress. Detach the left-hand halfshaft from the transmission using the special tools and secure it to one side. - Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
- Discard the snap ring from the drive halfshaft stub axle.

CAUTION:Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees. CAUTION:Do not damage the halfshaft oil seal. NOTE:Plug the transaxle to prevent oil loss and dirt ingress. Detach the right-hand halfshaft and intermediate shaft from the transmission and secure them to one side. - Discard the intermediate bearing cover and lock-nuts.
- Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.

Detach the gearshift cables from the transaxle. - Detach the shift cable (white) and selector cable (black) from the transmission linkage.
- Detach the cables from the retaining bracket, turning the abutment sleeves clockwise.

Install the special tools | | -
Remove the rear engine mounting nut. | | -
Detach the high-pressure pipe bracket from the rear engine mounting bracket. - Detach the charge air cooler pipe.

Disconnect the plug of the reversing lamp switch. | | -
Remove the rear engine mounting bracket. | | -
Detach ground lead on transmission. | | -
CAUTION:If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water. Detach the high-pressure pipe from the clutch slave cylinder. | | -
Remove the transmission upper retaining bolts. | | -
Lower the engine and transmission assembly using the special tools. | | -
Remove the transmission right-hand retaining bolts. | | -
Remove the transmission left-hand retaining bolts. | | -
NOTE:Secure the transmission on the transmission jack using retaining straps. | | |
