Seating - Rear Seat Backrest Mondeo 2001 (10/2000-02/2007)
Disassembly and Assembly

Disassembly

  1. Remove the head restraint(s).

  1. Remove the armrest (if equipped).
    1. Release the retaining clips.
    1. Slide the retaining clips forwards.

  1. Remove the backrest center hinge pin (if equipped).
    • Remove and discard the pin.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The locking tang releases in the opposite direction for inner and outer head restraint guides.
    Remove the outer head restraint guides.
    1. Using a suitable screwdriver, depress the locking tang.
    1. Pull the guide upwards.

  1. Detach the backrest cover from the backrest.
    • Detach the retaining strip.

  1. Detach the backrest cover from the backrest release button.

  1. Remove the safety belt webbing trim panel (if equipped).

  1. Detach the backrest cover from the underside of the armrest mounting bracket (if equipped).
    • Detach the retaining strip.

  1. Detach the backrest cover from the armrest mounting (if equipped).
    1. Roll the backrest cover inwards to access the retaining strips.
    1. Detach the retaining strips.

  1. Remove the center head restraint guides (if equipped).
    1. From the underside of the rear seat backrest, depress the locking tang.
    1. Slide the head restraint guides upwards through the backrest cover.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:When detaching the backrest cover take care not to detach the webbing retainer.
    Detach the backrest cover from the backrest pad.
    1. Roll the backrest cover inwards to access the pleating hog rings.
    1. Cut the hog rings.

  1. Detach the backrest heater mat wiring harness from the backrest cover (if equipped).
    • Feed the backrest heater mat wiring harness through the backrest cover.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:When removing the rear seat backrest cover take care not to detach the webbing retainer.
    Remove the rear seat backrest cover.
    • Feed the safety belt webbing through the backrest cover (if equipped).

  1. Remove the backrest heater mat from the backrest pad (if equipped).
  1. Remove the rear seat backrest latch.

  1. Remove the center safety belt retractor (if equipped). For additional information, refer to Section  501-20A Safety Belt System / 501-20B Supplemental Restraint System.

Assembly

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:If the safety belt webbing retracts further than the stop on the webbing, a new safety belt retractor must be installed.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the webbing retainer is fitted at least 200 mm from the webbing stop towards the retractor.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Use hog ring pliers to close the hog rings. Do not use any other tool. The hog rings must be closed to overlap as illustrated.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new backrest center hinge pin (if equipped).
    To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
