Disassembly

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Use vise jaw protectors.
  1. Clamp the output shaft in the vice.

  1. Special Tool(s): 205-071-01, 205-295, 308-197

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Left-hand thread
    Discard the retaining bolt.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Use a suitable washer as a thrust element.
    Special Tool(s): 205-295, 308-196

  1. Discard the snap ring.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Note the position of each component before removal.
    1. Sliding collar
    1. Synchronizer key
    1. Clutch hub

  1. Discard the snap ring.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Note the position of each component before removal.
    1. Sliding collar
    1. Synchronizer key
    1. Clutch hub
  1. Ensure that no oil ring is installed.

Assembly

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Use vise jaw protectors.
  1. Clamp the output shaft in the vice.
  1. Coat all running surfaces with clean transmission fluid before assembly.
    Material: Transmission Fluid

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the installation marks are aligned.
    1. Clutch hub
    1. Synchronizer key
    1. Sliding collar

  1. Special Tool(s): 308-604

  1. Install a new snap ring.

  1. The collar on the retaining ring must face upward.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the installation marks are aligned.
    1. Clutch hub
    1. Synchronizer key
    1. Sliding collar

  1. Special Tool(s): 308-604

  1. Install a new snap ring.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not oil the taper roller bearing.
    Install a new transmission-side taper roller bearing on the output shaft.
    Special Tool(s): 308-046

  1.  
    • NOTE:
      NOTE:Left-hand thread.
      The retaining bolt and thread must be clean and free of oil or grease.
    • Install a new transmission-side taper roller bearing retaining bolt.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not oil the taper roller bearing.
    Install a new clutch-side taper roller bearing on the output shaft.
    Special Tool(s): 204-050
