Engine - 1.4L Zetec-SE (Sigma)/1.6L - Exhaust Manifold Puma 1998 (06/1997-12/2001)
In-vehicle Repair

Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery negative lead. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
  1. Raise the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The flexible pipe can be damaged if it is bent too far.
    Support the flexible pipe using a suitable protective gaiter.

  1. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.

  1. Remove the catalytic converter bracket.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) and detach the ground lead.

  1. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.

  1. Detach the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold.

  1. Detach the exhaust manifold from the cylinder block (four nuts, one bolt).
    • Remove the gasket.

Installation

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The flexible pipe can be damaged if it is bent too far.
    Support the flexible pipe using a suitable protective gaiter.

  1. Install the exhaust manifold on the cylinder block with a new gasket (four nuts, one bolt).

  1. Attach the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.

  1. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.

  1. Connect the HO2S connector and the ground lead.
  1. Raise the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Install the catalytic converter bracket.

  1. Attach the exhaust manifold heat shield.

  1. Remove the gaiter from the flexible pipe.
  1. Lower the vehicle.
  1. Connect the battery negative lead. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
