Removal and Installation

Hot Air Gun

Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Should the ambient temperatures fall below 10°C, heat the cartridges for approximately 15 minutes by placing them on a warm radiator, or by placing a heat gun set to approximately 25°C.
    Heat the adhesive if required.

  1. Remove the two windshield wiper assemblies.
    1. Remove the wiper trim plugs.
    1. Remove the wiper nuts.
    1. Remove the washer.
    1. Remove the wiper arm.

  1. Remove the cowl grille panel.
  1. Remove the interior lamp. For additional information, refer to Section  417-02 Interior Lighting.

  1. Remove the sun visors two screws.

  1. Remove the sun visor retaining clip.
    1. Open the screw cover.
    1. Remove the screw.

  1. Detach the door weatherstrips on both sides.

  1. Remove the A-pillar trim panels.
    1. Unclip the trim panel.
    1. Slide the trim panel upwards to remove.

  1. Disconnect the heated windshield electrical connectors (two each side).

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Place a small block of suitable material between the headlining and roof to act as a spacer.
    Drop the headliner near the windshield.

  1. Cut away the locator blocks to aid removal of the windshield.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Care must be taken at the points where the cutting blades and cutting depths are changed to avoid damage to the body.
    From inside the vehicle cut the PU adhesive at the given maximum depths. Use the recommended blades following the proprietary tool manufacturers instructions.

  1. From outside the vehicle the PU adhesive can be cut from the lower part of the screen using a hooked blade. Use the recommended blades following the proprietary tool manufacturers instructions.

  1. With the aid of another technician using suction pads, remove the windshield.

Installation

  1. Install the windshield locator blocks.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Avoid touching the trimmed surfaces as this will inhibit the new adhesive from bonding.
    Remove the excess PU adhesive from the opening.
    • Carefully trim the remaining PU adhesive from the opening to leave approximately 1 mm of trimmed PU adhered to the bodywork.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:To make sure that the PU adhesive cures, it is essential that the bonding surfaces are free of moisture.
    Using a heat gun, apply warm air (25°C) to the window opening and glass bond line to remove all traces of moisture.
  1. Prepare the windshield opening accordance with the instructions supplied with the adhesive kit.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Discard the first 100 mm of PU adhesive as this may have a reduced working time to avoid water leaks, any breakage in the continuous bead should be overlapped by 20 mm.
    Apply the PU adhesive in continuous bead between 8 and 10 mm in height to the rear quarter window along the bond line.

  1. Install the windshield with the aid of another technician, using suction pads to carefully lift the windshield and align it in position over the opening.
    • Firmly and evenly press into position.

  1. Should the ambient temperature fall below 10°C, use a heat gun at a distance of approximately 50 mm from the opening and apply warm air (25°C) continuously for 15 minutes (inside or outside the vehicle).

  1. Connect the heated windshield electrical connectors (two each side).
  1. Install the A-pillar trims.

  1. Install the door weatherstrips on both sides.

  1. Install the sun visor retaining clip.
    1. Install the screw.
    1. Close the screw cover.

  1. Install the sun visor two screws.
  1. Install the interior lamp. For additional information, refer to Section  417-02 Interior Lighting.

  1. Install the cowl grille panel.

  1. Install the windshield wipers.
