Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Oil Seal Installer

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
  1. Remove the dual-mass flywheel.
    For additional information, refer to: Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate (308-01 Clutch, Removal and Installation).

3. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration(s) and table(s).

4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Inspect the engine oil level.
    For additional information, refer to: Engine Oil Draining and Filling (303-01 Engine - 2.5L Duratorq-TDCi (WL) Diesel/3.0L Duratorq-TDCi (WL) Diesel, General Procedures).

Removal Details

Item 1 : Rear oil seal

  1. Cut the oil seal lip by using a razor knife.

  1. Remove the oil seal by using a screwdriver protected with a rag.

Installation Details

Item 1 : Rear oil seal

  1. Apply soapy water along the perimeter of the new oil seal.

  1. Tap the oil seal in evenly using the SST and a hammer.
    • To ensure that the oil seal is installed correctly, measure the distance between the end of the rear cover and the face of the oil seal.
      • 1. Pushing distance of the rear oil seal 0.0—0.5 mm {0.0—0.019 in}.
