Removal and Installation

Removal
  1. Remove the drive belt.
    Refer to: Antriebsriemen - Zusatzaggregate (303-05A Antrieb - Zusatzaggregate - 2.0L Duratec-HE (MI4), Removal and Installation).

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:If the gaskets are not damaged, re-use them.

  1. Special Tool(s): 303-499

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Only rotate the crankshaft clockwise.
    Turn the crankshaft until no. 1 piston is at about 45° before TDC.

  1.  
    1. Release the chain tensioner using a 2 mm pin punch.
    1. Tension the timing chain.
    1. NOTE:
      NOTE:Only tighten the bolt finger tight at this stage.
      Secure the timing chain guide using an M6 x 25 mm bolt.

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Counterhold the camshafts at the hexagon using an open-ended spanner to prevent the camshafts from rotating.

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Counterhold the camshafts at the hexagon using an open-ended spanner to prevent the camshafts from rotating.
    Undo the bolt of the camshaft sprocket by 5 turns.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make a note of/mark the installed positions of the components before removal.

Installation
  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Make sure that the camshafts and camshaft bearing caps are installed in their original locations.
    Apply oil to the camshaft bearing caps.
    Material: Hypoid Gear Oil
  1. Install the camshafts approximately at valve overlap position cylinder No. 4.
    Torque:
    Stage 1:
    7 Nm
    Stage 2:
    16 Nm
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:This step is only required when installing a new component.
    Adjust the valve clearances.
    Refer to: Ventilspiel einstellen (303-01A Motor - 2.0L Duratec-HE (MI4), General Procedures).

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Only tighten the bolt finger tight at this stage.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the camshaft sprockets can rotate on the camshafts.

  1. Install the special tool.
    Special Tool(s): 303-376B

  1. Install the special tool.
    Special Tool(s): 303-748

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Only rotate the crankshaft clockwise.
    Turn the crankshaft until it stops against the special tool.

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Counterhold the camshafts at the hexagon using an open-ended spanner to prevent the camshafts from rotating.
    Torque: 72 Nm

  1. Remove the special tool.
    Special Tool(s): 303-376B

  1. Remove the special tool.
    Special Tool(s): 303-748

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Only rotate the crankshaft clockwise.
    Turn the crankshaft one and three quarters of a turn until no. 1 piston is at about 45° before TDC.

  1. Install the special tool.
    Special Tool(s): 303-748

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Only rotate the crankshaft clockwise.
    Turn the crankshaft until it stops against the special tool.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Only tighten the bolt finger tight at this stage.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:The bolt may only be installed if the valve timings are correct.
    • Bolt M6 x 18 mm

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The special tool may only be installed if the valve timings are correct.
    Install the special tool.
    Special Tool(s): 303-376B

  1. Remove the special tool.
    Special Tool(s): 303-376B

  1. Remove the special tool.
    Special Tool(s): 303-748

  1. Torque: 20 Nm

  1.  
    1. Material: Adhesive - Loctite 243
      Torque: 10 Nm
    1. Material: Adhesive - Loctite 243
      Torque: 12 Nm

  1. Special Tool(s): 303-499
    Torque: 12 Nm

  1. Apply a small bead of sealant to the areas shown.
    Material: Silicone Sealant

  1. Torque: 10 Nm

  1. Torque: 10 Nm

  1. Torque: 10 Nm
  1. Install the drive belt.
    Refer to: Antriebsriemen - Zusatzaggregate (303-05A Antrieb - Zusatzaggregate - 2.0L Duratec-HE (MI4), Removal and Installation).
