Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles

  1. Remove the polyurethane (PU) adhesive cap and heat the PU adhesive for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Vehicles with heated windshield

  1. Remove the overhead console.
    Refer to: Overhead Console - Wagon, Vehicles With: Glass Roof Panel (501-12 Instrument Panel and Console, Removal and Installation).

Vehicles with manual dimming interior mirror

Vehicles with autolamps and rain sensor
  1. Remove the interior rear view mirror.
    Refer to: Interior Rear View Mirror - Vehicles With: Rain Sensor/Autolamps (501-09 Rear View Mirrors, Removal and Installation).

All vehicles
  1. Remove the A-pillar trim panels.
    Refer to: A-Pillar Trim Panel (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:If the original window glass is to be installed, take care not to damage the electrical connectors and the weatherstrip.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:This step requires the aid of another technician.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Some resistance may be encountered when cutting through the glass locating strips.

Installation

All vehicles

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Minimum 1 mm bead thickness.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
    Carefully trim the remaining PU adhesive from the windshield glass flange.
    General Equipment: Knife

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Touching the adhesive surface will impair rebonding.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that all bonding surfaces are free of moisture.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Touching the adhesive surface will impair rebonding.
    Prepare the windshield glass, windshield glass flange and trimmed PU adhesive in accordance with the instructions supplied with the PU adhesive kit.
    General Equipment: Hot air gun

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Touching the adhesive surface will impair rebonding.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Discard the first 100 mm of adhesive as this may have a reduced working time.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that any breakage in the continuous bead of adhesive is overlapped by 20 mm.
    Apply the PU adhesive in a continuous bead of between 8 and 10 mm in height to the windshield glass flange along the bond line.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:This step requires the aid of another technician.
    • Using tape, secure the windshield glass in the correct position until the PU adhesive has cured.

  1. If the ambient temperature falls below 10°C, apply warm air (25°C) continuously for 15 minutes.
    General Equipment: Hot air gun
  1. Install the A-pillar trim panels.

Vehicles with autolamps and rain sensor

  1. Install the interior rear view mirror.

  1. Install the overhead console.
