Air Bag: Service and Repair
Passenger Side Air Bag
REMOVAL
NOTE: If the passenger side air bag module did not deploy in a collision, it may not have been needed. Complete all diagnoses before replacing the
passenger side air bag module.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
WARNING: The electrical circuit necessary for system deployment is powered directly from the battery. To avoid accidental deployment
and possible personal injury, the positive cable must be disconnected prior to servicing or replacing any system components.
2. Disconnect battery positive cable and wait one minute for backup power supply energy to be depleted.
3. Remove RH and LH finish panel.
4. Remove instrument panel finish panel retaining spear clips.
5. Open glove compartment, press side inward and lower glove compartment to floor.
6. Remove four remaining passenger side air bag module front retaining screws from side of air bag cover.
WARNING: Place air bag module on bench with trim cover facing up to avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury.
7. Disconnect electrical connector attached to LH side of passenger side air bag module and remove passenger side air bag module.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: Fill out and return air bag traceability postcard for new air bag with VIN numbers. Note diagnostic trouble code.
1. Connect electrical connector to passenger side air bag module and position passenger side air bag module in instrument panel.
2. Install four passenger side air bag module retaining screws. Tighten to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb in).
3. Install instrument panel finish panel.
4. Reconnect positive battery cable.
5. Reconnect battery ground cable.
6. Prove out air bag system.
