Camshaft: Testing and Inspection
TOOLS REQUIRED
J 8001 Dial Indicator Set, or equivalent.
PROCEDURE
1. Measure the camshaft journals with a micrometer.

If journals are more than 0.025 mm (0.0010 inch) out-of-round, replace the camshaft.
2. Measure camshaft runout using dial indicator.
a. Mount the camshaft in V-blocks between centers .
b. Use the dial indicator in order to check the intermediate camshaft journal.
3. If runout exceeds 0.065 mm (0.0026 inch), the camshaft is excessively bent and should be replaced.
