Wheel Bearing: Adjustments
CAUTION:

Never preload the front wheel bearings. Damage can result by the steady load on the roller ends that comes from preloadlng.
NOTE:

The proper functioning of the front suspension cannot be maintained unless the front wheel bearings are correctly adjusted.

Bearing must be lubricated to ensure the bearings will creep. The spindle nut must have a free-running fit on the spindle threads.
PROCEDURE
1. Raise the vehicle and support it with safety stands, then remove the following, the wheel cover if used, the bearing cap from the hub and the cotter
pin.
2. Tighten the nut to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.) while turning the wheel forward by hand. This will seat the bearings.
3. Adjust the nut to a finger tight position by hand, then back the nut off until hole in the spindle aligns with a slot in the nut taking care not to back
the nut off more than 1/2 flat.
4. After adjusting the nut, install a new cotter pin making sure the cotter pin ends do not interfere with the cap. Bend the ends of the cotter pin against
the nut and cut off any extra pin length.
5. Measure the the endplay in the rotor. Proper endplay is 0.03 to 0.13 mm (0.001 to 0.005 inch).
6. Insert the bearing cap onto the rotor.
7. Install the wheel cover, if used then lower the vehicle.
