Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
Front Suspension
REMOVAL
1. Raise the vehicle and support it with safety stands Then remove the nut taking care to hold the shock absorber stem with a wrench while backing
the nut off.
2. Remove the retainer, and the grommets.
3. Remove the shock bolts then do the following.
a. Pull the shock absorber out from below.
b. Replace parts as necessary.
4. Remove and inspect the shock nuts, and replace them if damaged or worn.
INSTALLATION
1. Place the retainer and grommet on the stem taking care to fully extend the stem.
2. Insert the shock absorber up through the lower control arm and spring then insert the stem end through the hole in the upper control arm frame
bracket.
3. Attach the grommet and the retainer to the stem.
4. Attach the nuts using new nuts, if needed and tighten the nuts to 12 Nm (106 Inch lbs.) while holding the stem with a wrench.
5. Insert the bolts through pivot holes to the lower control arm holes and tighten them to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) then lower the vehicle.
