AFFECTED VEHICLES
1999 Rodeo (UE) and Amigo (UA) models equipped with 6-speaker audio system.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Condition:
On some affected vehicles, the audio system may become inoperative or not fully functional, associated with noises coming from the speaker(s). The
following is a list of the possible symptoms.
-
No sound.
-
Audio cuts in and out intermittently.
-
Audio distortion from speaker unit(s).
-
Sound level fluctuates, fades in/out.
-
No power to head unit (radio).
NOTE
All Genuine Isuzu audio system head units incorporates protection circuitry. The purpose of the protection circuitry is to protect the unit from
damage due to shorting of the speaker wire harness. When speaker short occurs, the protection circuit activates immediately and shuts off the
amplifier operation until the short circuit is removed. Intermittent audio output is an indication of the protection circuitry being activated.
Possible Cause:
This condition may be the result of damage to the front left and/or right tweeter speaker wire harness when the door panel was installed onto the vehicle.
This damage of the speaker wire harness may cause the wire to short, leading to the activation of the head unit's protection circuitry.
Correction:
To eliminate this condition, inspect the tweeter harness for damage. If damage is evident, repair and reroute the harness, to prevent future damage when
re-installing the door panel.
