Clutch Pedal Assembly: Adjustments
Fig. 1 Hydraulic clutch release mechanism (Typical). 4 cylinder models
Some models use a hydraulic clutch mechanism, which is self adjusting. Freeplay adjustments are not necessary and there is no provision for such an
adjustment.
1. Position clutch pedal against pedal support bracket stop.
2. On Cherokee, Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer and all truck models, adjust pedal to bell crank pushrod until bell crank inner lever is parallel to front
face of clutch housing and slightly forward from the vertical position.
3. On all models, loosen jam nut on release rod adjuster and rotate adjuster as needed to obtain the following pedal freeplay: 3/8-5/8 inch on all
models with V-8 engines and 1980-81 Cherokee, Wagoneer and Truck models with 6 cylinder engines; 1-1/4 inches on CJ, Scrambler, Grand
Wagoneer, 1982-83 Cherokee and Wagoneer, and 1982-87 Truck models with 6 cylinder engines.
4. Tighten release rod adjuster jam nut and ensure that pedal freeplay is still within specification.
