Clutch Release Fork: Adjustments

1980-83

This procedure applies to all models not equipped with diaphragm spring type pressure plate (clutch cover).
1. Remove flywheel and position on flat surface with drive face up, then install gauge plate J-1048 on flywheel in hole normally occupied by clutch

disc.

2. Position pressure plate assembly over gauge plate, rotate plate to align machined lands with pressure plate release levers and ensure that gauge

plate hub is centered.

3. Install pressure plate bolts and torque bolts alternately and evenly to 40 ft. lbs.
4. Compress each release lever several times to seat levers in operating position.
5. Measure height of each lever above gauge plate hub using height gauge J-23330.
6. If release levers are not specified height above gauge plate hub, adjust by turning lever height adjusting nuts until specified dimension is obtained.
7. After each lever is adjusted, compress lever several times, recheck adjustment and correct as needed.
8. When all levers are at specified height, stake position of adjusting nuts to secure adjustment.
