Brake Pad: Service and Repair
Rear
NOTE: Do not disconnect brake hose from the caliper for this procedure.
1. Raise and properly support rear of vehicle.
2. Remove rear wheels.
3. The two retaining pins that support the pads are secured in the caliper housing by barrel-shaped spring clips located at their inboard ends. Tap
these pins on their outboard ends to release them. Remove the anti-rattle spring and withdraw pads.
NOTE: Proper installation of new pads requires removal of caliper to push piston back into its bore.
4. Remove clip that secures brake line to strut bracket, remove two caliper mounting bolts, and remove caliper.
5. Use a length of wire, or equivalent material, to suspend caliper from chassis.
6. Push piston into its bore far enough to accommodate the thickness of the new pads. Be careful to not damage the piston, its cylinder, or the brake
line.
7. Remount caliper and secure brake line to strut bracket with clip. Tighten mounting bolts to 24-32 Nm (18-24 ft. lbs.).
8. Install pads in caliper and locate them by tapping one retaining pin into its bore. Install anti-rattle spring and then tap second pin into its bore.
