Refrigerant: Vehicle Damage Warnings

R-12 / R-134A

Vehicles that use Refrigerant 134a (R-134a) in the A/C system have a caution plate attached to the rear wall of the engine compartment. Components
designed solely for use with R-134a are marked accordingly, to distinguish them from components designed solely for use with Refrigerant 12 (R-12).

R-12 and R-134a systems require different types of lubricating oil. Components designed solely for use with one refrigerant and oil type must never be
interchanged with components designed solely for use with another type of refrigerant and oil type.

R-134a differs entirely from R-12 in its composition, therefore, the two should never be mixed. Always charge system with correct amount of specified 
refrigerant.

R-12 and R-134a components are not interchangeable. Do not replace components from an R-134a system with components for an R-12 system and vice
versa. Mixing components from these two types of systems may cause component failure and damage to A/C system.

Maintaining Chemical Stability

The efficient operation and life of the A/C system depends on the chemical stability of the refrigeration system. Contamination with dirt, air, or moisture
lead to chemical instability, resulting in the following conditions:

Unstable pressure-temperature relationships

*

Interior corrosion

*

Premature component wear

*

Premature component failure

Observe the following general practices in order to ensure the chemical stability of the system:

Before breaking a refrigerant connection, wipe away any dirt or oil. This will reduce the risk of contamination. Immediately cap, plug, or tape both
sides of the connection.

Keep all tools clean and dry, including the manifold gage set and any replacement parts.

When adding oil, ensure that the transfer device and the container are clean and dry.

Set up all necessary tools, cleaners, etc., before opening the A/C system. Do not leave the A/C system open any longer than is absolutely
necessary.

Evacuate the A/C system after opening and before recharging.

All service parts are dehydrated and sealed prior to shipping. Do not open packaging until the moment of installation. Keep parts at room
temperature before uncapping. This prevents water condensation from the air entering the system. Reseal any parts as soon as possible.
