The steering wheel vibrates whilst the vehicle is being driven.
| STEP | OPERATIONS TO BE CARRIED OUT | TEST RESULTS | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | RIM AND TYRE CHECK | ALL OK | PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED | ACTION |
Check the following, in order:
| Move on to Step | 1. Tyre inflation pressure not correct | 1. Restore the correct pressure | |
| 2. Front rims distorted | 2. Replace the distorted rims | |||
| 3. Irregular tyre wear | 3. Continue following the instructions in Table X50 | |||
| 4. Presence of clearance | 4. Replace the components involved | |||
| 2 | CHECK ON VIBRATIONS AT LOW SPEED | ALL OK | PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED | ACTION |
Check the following, testing the vehicle at low speed (below 60 km/h):
| Move on to Step | Vibrations at the steering wheel (Shimmy): axial ovality/distortion of the front rim-tyre | Balance the front wheels < R1 >, if necessary replace the tyre/rim < R2 > See in Op. 4450B28 Left front TYRE, with wheel removed - R.R. | |
| 3 | CHECK ON VIBRATIONS AT MEDIUM SPEED | ALL OK | PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED | ACTION |
| Testing the vehicle at medium speed (60-80 km/h), check whether there are vibrations at the steering wheel and the floor panel, passenger side | Move on to Step | Vibrations at the steering wheel and floor panel | Check the alignment of the driveshaft three lobe joint - gearbox. If necessary, restore the alignment | |
| 4 | CHECK ON VIBRATIONS AT MEDIUM-HIGH SPEED | ALL OK | PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED | ACTION |
| Testing the vehicle at medium-high speed (above 80 km/h), check whether there are vibrations at the steering wheel | Move on to Step | 1. Vibrations at the steering wheel: front wheels not balanced | 1. Balance the front wheels See in Op. 4450B42 Front WHEELS, removed - Balancing at the bench | |
| 2. Vibrations at the steering wheel: front hubs out of alignment | 2. Replace the hubs | |||
| 3. Vibrations elsewhere: rear wheels not balanced | 3. Balance the rear wheels See in Op. 4450B43 Rear WHEELS, removed - Balancing at the bench | |||
| 5 | CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION | ALL OK | PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED | ACTION |
| Check that the fault is no longer present | ||||
