Replacing pads - Service Manual update

In advance of the Service Manual we are enclosing the procedure for replacing the rear brake disc pads.

the procedure described below must be rigourously followed because as the handbrake is the electric type and is operated by an electronic control unit the caliper piston can only be fully retracted using the Examiner.

Removing

  • Remove the rear wheels.
  • Connect the Examiner diagnostic equipment and select the procedure for replacing the rear brake pads.
  • Carry out the same operation for both rear brake calipers.
  • Undo the fixing bolts (1a - Fig. 1) and move the brake caliper (1b - Fig. 1) aside.

  • Remove the brake pads (1 - Fig. 2) from the housing on the bracket.

Refitting

  • Using the special tool 1.871.002.700 (1b - Fig.3), fit the brake caliper piston (1a - Fig. 3).

Fig. 3

  • Fit the new brake pads (1 - Fig. 4) in the housing in the brake caliper bracket.

The fastening clips on the bracket must be replaced each time the brake pads are removed.

Fig. 4

  • Position the brake caliper (1a - Fig. 5) in the housing in the bracket and tighten the fixing bolts (1b - Fig. 5) to a torque of 3.1 - 3.8 daNm.

Visually inspect the covers on the brackets, if they are cracked or show obvious signs of wear, replace the brake caliper bracket.

The bolts fixing the brake caliper to the bracket are self-locking and must therefore be replaced each time they are removed.

  • Complete the procedure for replacing the brake pads using the Examiner diagnostic equipment.
  • Disconnect the Examiner diagnostic equipment.
