OPERATIONS IN NETWORK
Network behaviour standards towards the Customer
- When this problem is reported and confirmed, reassure the Customer that it can be solved by replacing the power assisted steering components (solenoid).
- After the operation illustrate what has been done and road test the vehicle to make sure that the Customer is satisfied.
Service Solution: If this problem is reported and confirmed, replace the solenoid as described in the Operating Cycle below.
OPERATING CYCLE
- Drain the power assisted steering fluid from the reservoir as much as possible using a syringe.
- Place the car on a lift.
- Remove the left front wheel.
- Locate the solenoid (1 - Fig. 1) and detach the electrical connection;
- Undo the bolts fixing the solenoid to the steering box taking care to undo the rear bolt (2) first and then the front bolt (3)
A 3 mm Allen key about 70 mm long should be used to undo the bolts (1 and 2) which, as it is not standard, can be made, for example, by shortening a standard USAG 280L DIN 911 spanner.
Fig. 1
- Release the solenoid upwards, rotating it in both directions through small movements.
When the solenoid is removed from its housing oil comes out and therefore it is advisable to take care and position a container to collect it.
- Fit the solenoid 77362387 in its housing, taking care to avoid foreign bodies (dirt) from entering the steering box via the housing.
The tab should be positioned as shown by the arrow in Fig. 2
- Tighten the bolt (4 - Fig. 2) and then the bolt (5) (to the recommended torque of 0.35 daNm).
Fig. 2
- Reconnect the electrical connector.
- Clean the oil that comes out during the operation of replacing the solenoid.
- Top up the power assisted steering fluid level.
- Bleed the system with the vehicle moving and check that there are no oil leaks from the solenoid flange.
- Refit the left front wheel.
White paint mark on the front fixing bolt.
