If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the intermediate shaft.

2. INSPECT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a)

Using a dial indicator, measure the runout of the propeller shaft.
Maximum runout: 0.8 mm (0.031 in.) 

NOTICE: 
The dial indicator must be set at a right angle to the center of the propeller shaft.

If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the propeller shaft.

3. INSPECT UNIVERSAL JOINT SPIDER ASSEMBLY

(a)

Check that the spider bearing rotates smoothly.

(b) Check that there is no play in the spider bearing. If necessary, replace the propeller shaft.

4. INSPECT CENTER NO. 1 SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY

(a)

Turn the center support bearing by hand in the rotating direction.

(b) Check the center support bearing turns smoothly.
(c)

Check that the seals are not cracked or damage. If the center support bearing is damaged or worn, or does not turn smoothly, replace it.

REASSEMBLY 

1. INSTALL CENTER NO. 1 SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY

NOTICE: 
Be careful not to grip the propeller shaft tube too tightly in a vise as this may cause deformation.

Using SST and a press, press in a new No. 1 dust deflector.
