15. DISCONNECT REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a)

Push the rear axle carrier toward the outside of the vehicle. Using a plastic-faced hammer, disconnect the rear drive shaft from the rear axle
carrier.

NOTICE: 
^

Be careful not to damage the joint boot and speed sensor.

^

Do not push out the rear axle carrier excessively.

^

Use a wire or an equivalent to keep the rear drive shaft from hanging down.

16. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a)

Using SST, remove the rear drive shaft.
SST 09520-01010, 09520-24010 (09520-32040)

NOTICE: 
^

Be careful not to damage the oil seal, inboard joint boot and drive shaft dust cover.

^

Be careful not to drop the drive shaft.

INSPECTION 

1. INSPECT REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a)

Check that there is no excessive play in the outboard joint.

(b) Check that the inboard joint slides smoothly in the thrust direction.
(c)

Check that there is no excessive play in the radial directions of the inboard joint.

(d) Check the boot for damage.

INSTALLATION 

CAUTION:
When the brake caliper is removed from the brake disc, do not start the hybrid system. If the hybrid system is started, the brake fluid
pressure may increase. 

1. TURN POWER SWITCH OFF

(a)

Turn the power switch OFF, and check that the "READY" indicator turns off.

2. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a)

Coat the spline of the inboard joint shaft with gear oil.

(b) Set the shaft snap ring with the opening side facing down.
