About the LS
The LS has been Lexus's flagship since 1989. The LS 400 was the first car Lexus developed, after a five-year project that cost over US$1 billion, and the brand was created to sell it. Every LS of its first four generations had a V8, and in Japan the LS 400 and LS 430 were sold as the Toyota Celsior.
What these manuals cover
- 1990 (first generation): the LS 400's 4.0-litre V8 (1UZ-FE).
- 2002 (third generation): the LS 430's 4.3-litre V8 (3UZ-FE).
- 2007–2010 (fourth generation): the LS 460's 4.6-litre V8 (1UR-FSE), which brought the first production eight-speed automatic, with rear- or all-wheel drive, and the LS 600h hybrid with a 5.0-litre V8 (2UR-FSE).
Tip: the LS 400 and LS 430 engines are also used in the GS 400 and GS 430.
