Fig. 2 Exploded View Of Rear Brake Assembly

Refer to Fig. 2 when replacing brake pads.
1. Remove caliper bolts from torque plate, then the caliper. Do not let caliper hang by brake hose.
2. On LS 400 models, remove the following:

a. Two anti-squeal springs.
b. Two brake pads.
c. Four anti-squeal shims.
d. Two pad wear indicators.
e. Four pad support plates.

3. On all models, install pads as follows:

a. Install wear indicators if necessary.
b. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of inner anti-squeal shim.
c. Install anti-squeal shims to each pad.
d. Install pads with wear indicators facing downward.
e. Install anti-squeal springs if necessary.

4. Remove small amount of brake fluid from reservoir.
5. Use hammer handle or equivalent to press piston in.
6. Insert caliper and bolts. Torque ES 250 bolts to 14 ft. lbs. Torque LS 400 bolts to 25 ft. lbs.
7. Install wheel. Torque wheel lug nuts to 76 ft. lbs. Top off brake fluid reservoir.
