Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
REAR SHOCK ABSORBER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION
CAUTION: The low pressure gas shock absorbers are charged with nitrogen gas to 930 kPa (135 psi). Do not attempt to open, puncture or apply
heat to the shock absorber.
1. Jack up the rear of the vehicle and support it on safety stands.
2. Remove the rear wheels.
3. Remove the shock absorber lower attaching nut (1) and bolt (2).
4. Swing the lower end free of the mounting bracket on the axle housing.
5. Remove the attaching nut (3) from the upper mounting bolt. Remove the shock absorber (4).
6. Inspect all parts and repair or replace as necessary.
7. Install in the reverse order of removal.
Tightening torque
Shock absorber nuts 53 - 72 Nm (39 - 53 ft. lbs.).
