Idle/Bypass Air Control Valve: Testing and Inspection

SYSTEM OPERATION

BAC Valve Inspection

1.

Warm engine to operating temperature.

2.

Turn all electrical loads OFF.

3.

Connector tachometer to diagnosis connector terminal IG-.

4.

Check that idle speed is within specification: 670 ± 30 rpm.

NOTE: Check idle speed with electric cooling fan OFF.

5.

Check that idle speed is within specification under conditions shown on image chart.

AIR VALVE

1.

Start this test with engine cold. Connect diagnosis connector terminals TEN and GND with a jumper wire.

2.

Connect tachometer and start engine.

3.

Idle speed should gradually decrease as engine warms up.

IDLE SPEED CONTROL VALVE

1.

Unplug ISC valve connector.

2.

Check resistance across valve terminals. It should be 10.7 - 12.3 ohms @ 68°F (20°C).

3.

If not as specified, replace valve.
