Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming: Service and Repair

AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING

1.

Obtain radio deactivation code, before disconnecting any power supply. Deactivate radio anti-theft system.

2.

Disconnect positive battery cable from battery, then wait one (1) minute for backup power supply to deplete its stored power.

3.

Disconnect battery ground cable from battery.

4.

Remove lower lefthand sound insulator from instrument panel.

5.

Disconnect clockspring connectors (orange and blue) from wiring harness.

AIRBAG SYSTEM ARMING

1.

Connect clockspring connectors (orange and blue) to wiring harness.

2.

Connect positive battery cable to battery.

3.

Connect battery ground cable to battery.

4.

Check system operation as follows:
a. Turn the ignition switch to the On position.
b. Airbag warning lamp will illuminate for 4--6 seconds, then goes out. System is functioning normally.
c. If the airbag warning remains On, does not illuminate, or flashes, a problem exists in the system.
