Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Variable Reluctance Sensor (VRS)
The crankshaft timing sensor is a variable reluctance sensor (VRS). It is a passive electromagnetic device which senses movement of a 36 minus 1 tooth
trigger wheel machined into the rear of the crankshaft damper. An A/C voltage signal is generated which varies with engine rpm and provides the EDIS
module with base timing and engine speed information. Base timing is set at 10° BTDC.
