Pinion Gear: Adjustments
BEARING PRELOAD
1. Remove the bearing race from the bearing cover by using a pin punch and a hammer.
2. Align the bearing cover with guide bolts as shown and press it with the Special Service Tool (SST). Tighten the bearing cover bolts to 10.8 - 13.7
Nm (95.5 - 121 inch lbs.).
3. Remove the bearing race and adjustment shims from the bearing housing by using a pin punch and a hammer.
4. Press the bearing race into the bearing housing by using the SST.
5. Set the SST onto the converter housing.
6. Turn the selector to eliminate the gap between its two halves.
7. Set the output gear and bearing race onto the SST.
8. Set the four SST (collars) on the converter housing in the positions shown.
