Air Solenoid Valve: Testing and Inspection
Split Air Solenoid Valve
Manual Transmission
1.
Connect voltmeter to split air solenoid valve LB 1986-87 or BW (1988) terminal and ground.
2.
Turn ignition switch on.
3.
Shift into 5th gear and observe voltmeter reading. Voltage should be 0 volts on 1986 models, less than 2 volts on 1987 models, or less than 2.5
volts on 1988 models in 5th gear and approximately 12 volts in all other gears.
Automatic Transmission
1.
Shift into ``D'' range.
2.
Disconnect electrical connector at oil pressure switch and connect jumper wire between connector and ground.
3.
Observe voltmeter reading. Voltage should be zero volts on 1986 models, less than 2 volts on 1987 models and less than 2.5 volts on 1988 models
in overdrive and 12 volts in all other ranges.
