Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

CRANKSHAFT REAR SEAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 2.5L

Removal

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See  See: Maintenance/Vehicle Lifting/Service and Repair/Lifting.

2. Remove the flexplate or flywheel. See - See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Flex Plate/Service and Repair or - See: Transmission and

Drivetrain/Flywheel/Service and Repair.

3. Drain the engine oil.

Install the drain plug and.

-

Tighten to 28 Nm {2.8 kgf-m, 21 ft-lbf}.

4. Remove the 17 bolts and the oil pan.

CAUTION:If the oil pan is not removed damage to the rear oil seal retainer joint can occur. 

5. Remove the 6 bolts and the crankshaft rear oil seal with retainer plate.

Installation

1. Using the special tool, position the crankshaft rear oil seal with retainer plate onto the crankshaft.
